1st Years Requirement For 2nd Class Held This Sat.
I am planning on holding a 5 mile hike at Independence Grove for our 1st year scouts who need this 2nd Class requirement. We will meet at Independence Grove near the Visitor's Center this Saturday at 2pm. We will first cover the 10 poisonous plants requirement at the center then proceed with our hike.
The boys who finish these requirements before camp can earn their 2nd class rank at camp.
If you are the parent of a 1st year scout, please let me know if your son can attend. He should have a water bottle and rain gear as it might rain according to weather.com. I could also use a parent or two to assist.
I'm planning to bring my hiking boots due to the rain. I would recommend them if you have them.
Regards,
Al Cowsky Scoutmaster, Troop 72. Submitted by Jennings

The Apple River campout is fast approaching. Sign-up begins at the May 4th Scout meeting. The cost is $20 each (includes kayak rental). The boys must have completed a BSA swim test to be able to come on the kayak portion of the campout. The parents of those first year scouts who did not complete the swim test need to contact Al Cowsky as soon as possible to arrange for another test. Al is trying to get a quick shakedown cruise over at Independence Grove this weekend. Due to the circumstances, it will be limited to the first year scouts. Also, their parent's must be present and join their boys in a tandem kayak (their rules, not ours). Further information will be provided tomorrow.
